Service | 2024/25

Fall 2024 marked my second year as an Assistant Professor of Painting at the University of Iowa, during which I continued to expand my service contributions across departmental, collegiate, and student-centered initiatives. In Fall 2024, I served as the Interterm Faculty Gallery Coordinator, overseeing eight galleries and two atrium spaces. This role involved close coordination with faculty and staff, including participation in weekly Tuesday meetings led by Ben Anzelc, and required administrative oversight, scheduling, and support of exhibitions across multiple venues.

I maintained active involvement in the MFA program by interviewing prospective students for the 2025–2026 cohort, demonstrating my ongoing investment in shaping the future of our graduate community. I am also serving on the tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art search committee, targeted in Drawing and Science, a national search initiated in Fall 2024. This role reflects my engagement in faculty governance and long-term program development.

In addition, I will serve as the sole Painting and Drawing faculty representative on the 2025 Grant Wood Fellowship in Painting selection committee. With nearly 80 applicants in Painting alone, this work represents a significant evaluative responsibility. As an alum of the Grant Wood Fellowship, I am especially proud to contribute to this process and to support opportunities for research and professional development among emerging artists.

My graduate-level service continues through direct mentorship and evaluation. I am serving on Elise’s MA committee in anticipation of her Spring 2025 graduation and participated in second-year graduate reviews, meeting individually with nine of the eleven students involved in this process. To date, I have served on no fewer than five MA and MFA committees, while also maintaining an active role in Painting and Drawing BFA clearance reviews and graduate application evaluations.

Served as faculty host for visiting artists: Sean Downing (10/24), Gyan Shrosbree (3/25),Bruce Dorfman(3/25) Jim Shrosbree (12/25) Hosting duties that may include and are not limited to: Coordinated graduate studio visits and critique scheduling. Prepared visiting artist introductions and biographical materials.Hosted and escorted visiting artist to graduate critiques.Providing on-site support during critique sessions.Facilitated visiting artist logistics, including campus coordination and compensation processing.

Finally, although extending into early 2025, I am currently serving as the Painting and Drawing representative on the SAAHD Scholarship Committee, which includes oversight of undergraduate submissions and the ballot process. In parallel, I am working to relaunch a student-led Art Club within SAAHD to foster a stronger sense of community and interdisciplinary connection among students. I have conducted informal interviews with numerous students regarding interest in reestablishing the organization and have received overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic responses. I am committed to helping launch an active Art Club in 2025 and view this initiative as an important contribution to student engagement and departmental culture.
